When a wood roof needs replacing, what alternatives does a homeowner have?

In a recent post, we talked about a cedar roof installation we recently completed. This past spring, a Mendham, Morris County homeowner hired Uneda Roof to replace an aging wood roof — in this case, with a slate-look asphalt roof using GAF Slateline in Mariner’s Blue.

After we removed the old cedar roof, we prepped the roof by installing 1/2″ plywood over the existing 1-by’s. As extra precaution, we installed a 6′ leak barrier to protect the home from moisture at the edges of the roof. We used aluminum edging throughout.
